Johannes Åkesson is the founder of SQL Spreads, a leading data management solution that leverages Excel to deliver simplicity and an outstanding user experience. SQL Spreads is used by over 1000 organizations worldwide — from Nobel Prize–winning research institutions to top Fortune 500 companies.
With more than 20 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Johannes specializes in Microsoft’s BI stack, including SQL Server, Power BI, Power Query, SSIS, and Excel. Before launching SQL Spreads in 2015, he spent over a decade designing and implementing BI and data warehouse solutions for clients across Scandinavia.
Through his work with SQL Spreads, Johannes stays closely connected to the real-world challenges companies face when working with large-scale data in Excel and SQL Server. His blog articles reflect this hands-on experience — offering practical solutions, deep technical insights, and field-tested tips for improving data workflows and governance.
He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology and regularly writes about data solutions built on the Microsoft data stack — including Excel, SQL Server, and Power BI — with a focus on use cases such as data management, forecasting, and budgeting.
